Setting expectations

We just had a client ask us if it’s unfair for them to expect us to be an expert at everything we do. We were thrilled they trusted us enough to engage Patrick and me on the topic. However, we admitted afterwards to being dumbfounded by the question. You have every right to expect us to excel at what we do, just as you expect your mechanic, your kid’s schoolteachers and your politicians to excel at their vocations.

We look at it like this. When you give us an assignment, you are in essence handing over your baby and asking us to help raise it. We damn well better know how to change the diapers, because we don’t want to return your pride and joy to you smelling like crap.
